Amnesia ~~~~~~~ Normal: Forget most of map, all traps on level, and all spells, with a 1/3 chance of losing levels and object discoveries. "Who was that Maud person anyway!" (if blind) Charging ~~~~~~~~ Normal: Charges item by 1 (or small amount) "This is a charging scroll." "Your [item] glows [color] for a moment." There is a chance that a piece of armor enchanted beyond +3 will be destroyed with each enchantment(1). Also turns dragon scales into dragon scale mail. "Your [armor] glows silver for a moment." "Your [weapon] is covered by a mottled purple glow." Fire ~~~~ Normal: Explodes in fire, doing 2-4 hp of damage to you and surrounding squares. Also destroys scrolls and potions that you are carrying. "The scroll erupts in a tower of flame!" Blessed: Explodes doing 1-2 hp of damage. Cursed: Explodes doing 3-5 hp of damage. Blessed: Lets you genocide a whole class of monsters (represented by the letter). Cursed: Creates the type of monster chosen. Confused: Wipes out whatever class your character is. Kills you. Gold Detection ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Normal: Detects all gold on the level. "You feel very greedy, and sense gold." "You feel materially poor." (if no gold on level) Cursed: Detects all traps on the level as gold. "You feel very greedy." "You toes stop itching." (if no traps found) Confused: Detects all traps on the level as traps. "You feel entrapped." Identify ~~~~~~~~ Normal: Identifies 1 item with 1/5 chance of blessed effects. "This is an identify scroll." Blessed: Identifies 1-4 items with 1/5 chance of identifying all items Cursed: Identifies 1 item. Confused: Does nothing. "You identify this as an identify scroll." Light ~~~~~ Normal: Lights the surrounding area "A lit field surrounds you!" Cursed/Confused: Darkens the surrounding area "You are surrounded by darkness!" Magic Mapping ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Normal: Complete map of level is drawn. "A map coalesces in your mind!" Cursed/Confused: Partial map of level is drawn. "Unfortunately, you can't grasp the details." Punishment ~~~~~~~~~~ Normal: Chains you to heavy metal iron ball. "You are being punished for your misbehavior!" Blessed/Confused: Does nothing. "You feel guilty." Remove Curse ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Normal: Removes curses on worn armor, wielded weapons, and loadstones. Also removes punishment. "You feel like someone is helping you." "You feel in touch with the Universal Oneness." (if hall.) Blessed: Uncurses all objects in your inventory. Cursed: Does nothing "The scroll disintegrate." Confused: Randomly blesses or curses objects selected "You feel like you need some help." "You feel the power of the force against you." (if hall.) Scare Monster (Cause Fear) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Normal: Causes monsters to flee for short period of time. Should be dropped and stood upon. "You hear maniacal laughter close by." (if it works) "You hear maniacal laughter in the distance." Cursed/Confused: Aggravates monsters that you can see. "You hear sad wailing close by." (if it works) "You hear sad wailing in the distance." Taming (Charm Monster) ~~~~~~ Normal: Tames every creature within one square and calms angry shopkeepers. Cursed: Angers every creature within one square of you. Confused: Tames every creature within five squares of you. Teleportation ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Normal: Teleports you on the current level. Same as wand or trap. Blessed: Asks if you want to teleport. Cursed/Confused: Does a level teleport. (0) The message received depends on the item, but usually is the colored one when it receives multiple charges. (1) The chance of the enchantment failing is totally dependent on the current enchantment. If the current bonus is +3 or less (+5 or less for elven armor) you will always succeed. Otherwise, you have one chance in whatever the current bonus is. In other words, if the bonus is +4, you have a 1/4 or 25% chance of being successful. (2) The amount of the enchantment for blessed enchant armor scrolls is random number from 1 to 3-spe/3, where spe is the current enchantment. This means that for +0 armor, the enchantment is from +1-3, while for +1 and +2 the enchantment is +1-2. The chance of increasing (+1) the enchantment above +9 is one in the current enchantment. (3) You will always succeed is the weapon enchantment is +5 or less. Above that, the chance is 2/3 of success. The same holds true reducing the enchantment. (4) The amount of enchantment with a blessed scroll random number from 1 to 3-spe/3, where spe is the current bonus. This means the range is +1-3 for a bonus of +0, +1, and +2; +1-2 for +3, +4, and +5; and +1 for +6 to +8. Above +9, the chance of enchanting +1 is one in the enchantment.
